Caste System-India

*DISCUSS THE CASTE SYSTEM IN TERMS IN ITS JUSTIFICATION BY THE BRAHMINS AND THE IMPACT ON THE DALITS*
The caste system in India is tradition. It is based on Hinduism. Most people there do not upset the status quo, but some young Dalits are protesting the system. The Brahmins are the priests and the academics. They can make the Dalits do anything that they don’t want to do. The Dalits are the untouchables of their society. They do all the subordinate work. They are treated with little respect. In school children are made to sit in the back of the class, people are made to take off their shoes to go to a different part of a village. The Brahmins feel as though this is okay, and what they are doing to the Dalits is okay. The only reason why the Brahmins like this system because they have social power and money, while the Dalits don’t. This system isn’t that far from the one that we had in the ‘60s. But at least we stopped, for the most part.
