Why Do they Hate Us?

Reading 1:

1. What questions do you have from the reading? How might they be answered?
Do we even know why they attack us? -Bin Ladden is a sociopath. He has said the same reasons for ever, because we "have a corrupt government," and "we have killed his people for years." But why does he only have those reasons? I went on http://www.brown.edu/Departments/Anthropology/publications/Oppose.htm to find out why.

2. What is President Obama's answer? Brennan's?
Obama's answer was that al Qaeda is terrorist group that recruits people without a terrorist record to kill innocent people. It is a bankrupt image of misery and death. His answer to why was that America stands by progress and justice, and those who also stand by it.
Brennan's answer was that al Qaeda is an extremist group, determined to carry out attacks on the U.S and  kill, slaughter innocent people. al Qaeda uses religion in a corrupt way.

3.Thomas was clearly dissatisfied with Brennan's answer. Why? Would she have been satisfied with the president's? Why or why not?
Thomas was dissatisfied with Brennan's answer because he didn't explain why they hated us. He just explained what they do. I believe that she wouldn't be satisfied because Obama doesn't say why the terrorists use people without a terrorist record. He just said how they do it, it's never why.

4. Why does Glenn Greenwald think it important to consider terrorist motivations? Do you agree? Why or why not?
Glenn Greenwald thinks that it is important to consider the terrorist motivations because if we don't know and we refuse to know, then we will come across as afraid. Also he said that it is like allowing this behavior because without knowing why, we will never know how to end it. I do agree with Glenn Greeenwald because without knowing how it happens we will always be subject to more attacks because we don't know why it happens and how to stop them.

5.How would you answer Thomas' question, "Why?" Why do Hasan, Abdulmutallab, and others commit such acts?? If you need more reliable information, where might you find it?
I believe that Hasan, Abdulmutallab, commit terrorist acts because they were brain washed. I believe that al Qaeda targets people, people without a terrorist record, and brain washing them into thinking that America is bad, their beliefs are bad, and their government is bad. You might find information like this in interviews with Bin Ladden. http://articles.cnn.com/2002-02-05/world/binladen.transcript_1_incitement-fatwas-al-qaeda-organization?_s=PM:asiapcf

Reading Two:

1. What questions do you have about the reading? How might they be answered?
How come Bin Ladden is blaming us for occupying the holy land when Saudi asked us during the Gulf War to protect it?
This question may be answered by visiting:

2. Years have passed since President Bush's comments. What knowledge and evidence do you have to support, add to, amend, or oppose his explanation for terrorist acts? Why might jihadists want to overthrow certain Muslim governments? Drive Israel out of the Middle East? If you don't know how might you find out?
The evidence that I have to add to President Bush's comments is that Bin Ladden hates the fact that we supply Israel with weapons and money. That's what he means when he claims that we have been killing his people for years. Jijadists might want to overthrow Muslim governments so they can have enough money and military power they need to fight the West. They might want to drive Israel out of the Middle East because they are Islamic Extremest, who want nothing more than to gain power, kill the infidels, and spread the word of the Allah or God.
If you don't know you will find out by visiting http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/target/etc/modern.html

3. Even more years have passed since Bin Laden's harsh critique of the United States. What knowledge and evidence do you have to support, add to, amend, or oppose that critique.
I know now that Bin Laden is a sociopath. He states that the America because we stood in his way when he wanted to take over the Middle East. We protected the Holy Land and he didn't like that, he wanted to take it over and drive out all the Jews. He is an extremest set out to kill us, the Infidels, and those who have power. The ones who stand in his way.

4. According to Wright, what has led young men in Arab countries to find martyrdom attractive?
What led young men to Arab countries was the promise of a new life, and rewards to that life. The life before had restrictions on music and movies. Unemployment was low and they were looking for an alternative.

5. According to polling in Muslim countries, how popular is Al Qaeda? Why?
Al Qaeda is highly disapproved in Muslim countries, that's because of the killing of innocent infidels and civilians. They believe you should not discrimmonate and kill by what their religious beliefs are. No matter what the cause.

Reading Three:

1.  What questions do you have about the reading? How might they be answered?
The questions I have are that, why did government agencies contradict President Bush? Did they want to sugar coat it, and not give the truth? Did they not want people to get scared? This will be answered by visiting http://www.nationaljournal.com/columns/common-sense/maybe-the-government-would-earn-more-of-our-trust-if-it-invaded-our-privacy-less-20101202

2. What U.S. policies do most Muslims hate and why? If you need more information, how might you find it?
The policy that most Muslims hate would be our Foreign Policy.

3. Why might acknowledging that U.S. policies have anything to do with jihadist attacks be seen as "politically incorrect" and "blaming the victim"?
This might be seen as that because people are afraid of being wrong. We never think that we are wrong or that we do anything wrong. We always point fingers at others to hide our failures and our flaws. Now, I'm not saying that we should change our policies, because that would be neogotiating with terrorism. Looking into what they have considered us to be wrong in, would be a step into seeing how we can prevent attacks in the future.

4. Despite a year of effort by Obama's special envoy George Mitchell to move the Israelis and Palestinians toward a negotiated two-state solution, there's been no visible progress. Why not? If you need more information, how might you find it?
There hasn't been an visual progress because they don't see eye to eye. Palestine is in greivence to what they have lost, and also because they are terrorists. You may find more information by visiting:   http://ifamericansknew.org/history/origin.html

5.  How and why are the people of Gaza suffering? If you need more information, how might you find it?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8578611.stm
They are suffering because Israel declared war on them. The set up blockades so they couldn't get water. They also have way to many people there. The website above explains.
